New patients frequently ask some or all of the following questions regarding their initial evaluation and treatment.

Q.  What information do I bring?
A.  For the first visit, make an appointment and bring your:
ball1.gif (1653 bytes)  prescription (Rx) or referral from your MD
ball1.gif (1653 bytes)  insurance approval or authorization (if it was not FAXed or sent by your doctor)
ball1.gif (1653 bytes)  insurance card

Q.  What do I wear?
A.  Wear comfortable clothing (shorts, sweats, sneakers, t-shirts, etc.) or if necessary, bring clothes that you can change into.  There are lockers, a changing room and showers.

Q.  Do I get examined?
A.  YES by a licensed Physical Therapist.

Q.  How long do I have to stay?
A.  Sessions are usually about 1 hour, but there is no time limit to the Rx.  It can be 45 minutes or 2 hours, depending upon your treatment needs.

Q.  What should I expect the first time I come to physical therapy?
A.   A Physical Therapist will evaluate you and begin your first Rx session.  The therapist will explain the plan of the Rx, more about your condition and will begin treatment.

Q.  What type of P.T. is provided?
A.  Active participation by the patient with modalities (use of various types of equipment) as an adjunct when necessary.  A hands-on approach to most conditions requiring joint mobility, stimulation, etc.

Q.  How long will I require P.T.
A.  Each condition varies by the age of the patient, severity of the condition, the compliance of the patient with their prescribed therapy and attendance at P.T.

Q.  How often do I go to P.T.?
A.  Usually 2 to 3 times a week until the condition improves.  Then 1-2 times weekly is usually required.
